A 1976 home on Calle del Cielo could be demolished and replaced with a two-story residence under a plan the La Jolla Shores advisory board will review Wednesday, Sept. 16.
That project is one of three residential action items on the board's posted agenda. The meeting runs from 10 a.m. to noon at the La Jolla Recreation Center auditorium, 615 Prospect St. The board skipped August.
Calle del Cielo: demolition and new two-story home
The biggest project on the docket is at 8424/8332 Calle del Cielo. Architect Tim Martin of Martin Architecture has applied to tear down the existing one-story home and build a new two-story single-family residence with guest quarters.
The project needs both a Site Development Permit (SDP) and a Coastal Development Permit (CDP). Plans call for a two-car attached garage at the main residence, a single garage at the guest quarters, a new curb cut on Calle del Cielo, front- and rear-yard landscaping, a site drainage system with retaining walls, and upgraded electrical service.
Paseo Dorado: two-story addition
At 2255 Paseo Dorado, Eric Buchanan of Oasis Architecture & Design is seeking a Site Development Permit for a first- and second-floor addition to an existing one-story home with an attached three-car garage. The plans also include an interior remodel of the kitchen, living room, laundry and powder bath.
Via Capri: patio and garage conversion
The smallest item involves 7255 Via Capri, where applicant Kave Elahi wants to convert a covered patio into a living room and part of the garage into a laundry room and bath. The conversion would increase the home from 2,112 square feet to 2,570 square feet on a 12,200-square-foot lot, according to project documents. The floor-area ratio would rise from 17.3% to 26.7%.
Elahi is asking the board to classify the work as minor in scope, which would allow it to proceed under a streamlined Process 1 review.
How to weigh in
The seven-member board, chaired by Jane Potter, hears presentations and public testimony before sending recommendations to the city's decision-maker. Final approval rests with city staff, a hearing officer, the Planning Commission or the City Council.
Residents who want to speak on an agenda item must submit a speaker form before the item is heard. Public comment on non-agenda matters is limited to three minutes per speaker.
The board's next meeting after Sept. 16 is scheduled for Oct. 21.
