UC San Diego women's soccer shut out Sacramento State 3-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Triton Soccer Stadium in La Jolla.

The Big West conference win lifted the Tritons to 7-3-5 overall and 3-1-3 in league play, according to the UCSD athletics schedule.

Redshirt sophomore forward Ava Tibor scored twice. Redshirt freshman midfielder Olivia Shih added the other goal. Sophomore forward Molly Blom assisted on both of Tibor's goals, as first reported by The UCSD Guardian, which published a full game account. Sacramento State dropped to 5-5-5 overall and 1-3-3 in Big West play, according to the Guardian's report.

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Charlotte Wilfert recorded three saves for the clean sheet. Wilfert, a Thousand Oaks native, broke UC San Diego's 35-year-old single-match saves record earlier this season with 15 stops against Utah Valley, according to a UCSD athletics release. That performance earned her Big West Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second time in her career.

The shutout was the latest strong defensive showing for a team that entered the season picked ninth of 12 in the Big West Preseason Coaches' Poll. UCSD needs a top-six conference finish to qualify for the Big West Championship. The program has never reached the Division I postseason. The UCSD Guardian reported in October that UCSD finished in the top six in 2023 but was ineligible because the school was still transitioning to Division I.

Head coach Kristin Jones told the Guardian ahead of the Sacramento State match that the conference tournament remains the team's focus.

"The ultimate goal is getting in the conference tournament," Jones said in the Guardian's Oct. 12 report. "We've just got to string some wins together and just get some confidence."

The Tritons sit at 3-1-3 in Big West play with two regular-season matches remaining.

UCSD tied UC Santa Barbara 1-1 on Saturday, Oct. 17, in Santa Barbara. The Tritons return home to face Long Beach State at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Triton Soccer Stadium. The regular-season finale is at 1 p.m. Oct. 31 against UC Irvine, also at home, for Senior Day.
