The San Diego County Registrar of Voters began mailing voter information pamphlets to more than 2 million registered voters on Friday, Sept. 25, according to the County News Center. Mail-in ballots will follow, arriving at La Jolla doorsteps the week of Monday, Oct. 5.

Each pamphlet includes voting options, election deadlines, official drop box and vote center locations, candidate statements, ballot measures and a sample ballot. The ballot card has two pages, front and back, and voters can choose which contests to vote on.

Under the California Voter's Choice Act, every active registered voter in San Diego County will receive a ballot by mail. No postage is required. Voters can return ballots through the U.S. Postal Service (postmarked by Tuesday, Nov. 3), at an official ballot drop box available Sunday, Oct. 4, through Nov. 3, or at any vote center.

The last day to register to vote is Monday, Oct. 19, Fox 5 San Diego reported. Residents who miss that deadline can still cast a ballot through Conditional Voter Registration, which begins Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Registrar's office at 5600 Overland Ave. in Kearny Mesa or at any vote center.

Voters who signed up for electronic delivery should have already received an email linking to their pamphlet. Anyone who wants future pamphlets sent electronically can sign up at sdvote.com.

Vote center schedule

In-person voting begins Monday, Oct. 5, at the Registrar's office in Kearny Mesa, open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Vote centers then open in phases:

  • Saturday, Oct. 24: Select vote centers open daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 31: All vote centers open daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 3 (Election Day): All vote centers, official ballot drop boxes and the Registrar's office open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The ballot also includes a San Diego County Charter Reform measure placed by the Board of Supervisors. That proposal would create an independent Ethics Commission, an Independent Budget Analyst and a Program Auditor, require public disclosure of certain county spending and change Board of Supervisors term limits from two terms to three, according to La Jolla by the Sea.
