La Jolla Village businesses have until Friday, Oct. 30, to lock in a discounted spot in the annual Holiday Open House, according to the La Jolla Village Merchants Association.
The event returns Sunday, Nov. 22, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. across the Village. Shops, restaurants, galleries, salons, fitness studios and other businesses each host their own festivities, turning the district into a walkable afternoon of holiday shopping, dining and entertainment. The association said the event brings hundreds of shoppers into the Village.
The merchants association said the tradition was founded by Adelaide's more than 40 years ago. Rather than a single centralized festival, participating businesses create individual draws: live music, holiday treats, special promotions, children's crafts or photo spots.
Sign-up costs
Early bird participation costs $150 per business. Merchants must sign up by Oct. 30 and pay by Friday, Nov. 6, to qualify for that rate. After Nov. 6, the fee rises to $200.
Businesses that sign up will be listed on the event poster, which the association said will be distributed the first week of November. Participants will also receive posters, graphics and promotional tools, along with placement in the association's print, social media and newsletter campaigns.
What merchants should know
The association is encouraging participating businesses to plan something festive for visitors. Suggestions on its recruitment page include serving hot cocoa, hosting artist demonstrations, offering raffles, holding customer appreciation events or creating a holiday photo spot. Businesses are also asked to decorate their windows and share the event with their social media followers.
Space in promotional materials is limited, the association said.
The event works best when a wide range of businesses throughout the Village participate, giving visitors more reasons to explore and discover new shops, the association said.
Sign-up details are available on the merchants association's website.
