More than 45 La Jolla Village businesses will offer discounts and perks to locals through a free digital savings pass starting Friday, Sept. 4.
The La Jolla Village Merchants Association announced the La Jolla Savings Pass on its website Wednesday, Aug. 26, calling September and October "Locals' Summer." The pass covers shops, restaurants, galleries and services along Girard Avenue and surrounding Village streets.
Pass holders show a digital pass on their phone to redeem offers.
No coupons or printing required.
The program also includes a sweepstakes. Users who redeem offers throughout September and October will be entered to win prizes from La Jolla businesses, including a grand prize "Perfect La Jolla Staycation" valued at more than $1,000. That prize is sponsored by Stephanie Silverberg of Compass Realty, who was unanimously appointed LJVMA marketing chair at the association's Aug. 12 board meeting, according to meeting minutes.
The savings pass is a digital update of the association's earlier physical "La Jolla-lty Card," which offered locals discounts at various establishments. Executive Director Jodi Rudick said the board worked with digital partner VibeMap to reimagine the program in a virtual format, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported Aug. 15. At the time of that report, 44 businesses had pledged to participate. The count has since grown to more than 45.
The LJVMA also secured a $24,000 San Diego County Neighborhood Reinvestment Program grant at the same Aug. 12 meeting. Those funds are designated for marketing materials, interactive art installations, digital campaign materials and printed signage, according to the meeting minutes.
The association framed the promotion as a chance for San Diegans to enjoy La Jolla after the peak tourist season thins out. In its announcement, the LJVMA said it is declaring September and October as Locals' Summer, with deals and discounts from more than 45 Village businesses.
Residents can download the pass beginning Sept. 4 at lajollabythesea.com/la-jolla-savings-pass. The LJVMA's next board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 4 p.m. at the La Jolla/Riford Library, 7555 Draper Ave.
